Product Features

TruHybrid™ Combustion Technology

The Shelburne 8372 uses HearthStone's TruHybrid™ system, which combines primary and secondary combustion with tertiary combustion through a catalyst. Two Applied Ceramics FIRECAT steel catalytic combustors (model ACI-6M2) burn smoke and remaining particles that were not fully consumed in the firebox. The combustors become active at approximately 500°F, and the stove typically operates in the 800°F to 1300°F catalyst range. When the catalysts are in the active range and fully functional, there should be little to no visible smoke from the chimney.

Cast Iron Detail, Finished From Every Angle

The Shelburne is constructed of high-quality cast iron parts produced at HearthStone's own foundry in Spain and finished in porcelain enamel or traditional black stove paint. It is designed to be seen from all sides: the backside is fully detailed and enameled, so the stove looks equally at home against a wall or in the center of a room. HearthStone's porcelain Majolica enamels are a glass-based finish applied in layers and fired at nearly 2000°F; color variation and fine crazing over time are normal characteristics of this finish.

Soapstone-Lined Firebox

The firebox is lined with soapstone blocks. Soapstone is a natural material that absorbs the high heat of the fire and then radiates a gentle, even warmth into the room, warming the objects in your home rather than just the air. Like all soapstone-lined stoves, the Shelburne must be broken in gradually with a series of small fires to season the stone and cure the furnace cement.

Everyday Controls

A single primary air control lever under the ash lip regulates the burn rate, and the control does not close completely, preserving the manufacturer-set minimum burn rate. A bypass handle routes combustion products around the catalysts during startup and reloading, and a supplied catalyst thermometer indicates when the stove is in the active catalyst range. The large glass window uses an air-wash system to help keep the ceramic glass clear during normal operation.

Top or Rear Venting

The Shelburne ships in the vertical (top) flue configuration and can be converted to a direct rear exit by switching the positions of the flue collar and flue plate. Rear exit installations require a draft of at least 0.08" water column and a minimum chimney height of 15 feet; do not install the stove in the rear exit configuration without sufficient draft.

Heating Performance

Independent laboratory testing rates the Shelburne 8372 at a maximum heat output of 60,000 BTUs per hour burning cordwood, with an EPA-tested delivered output range of 12,600 to 33,600 BTUs per hour under specific test conditions. It is rated to heat up to a maximum of 2,000 square feet; home insulation, window efficiency, floor plan, stove placement, and fuel quality can reduce the area the stove will heat.

Clearances and Hearth Requirements

The values below are from the current Shelburne 8372 owner's and installation manual (revision 1/11/23), including the complete Figure 4 clearance table. The Shelburne includes a factory-supplied rear heat shield; the reduced-clearance heat shield referenced below is the shield supplied with Blower & Reduced Clearance Heatshield Combo kit 96-57400. Single-wall connector clearances are generic; the double-wall connector clearances shown by HearthStone are specific to Simpson DuraVent DVL and may vary with other brands.

Parallel and corner installation clearances to combustibles

The reduced 5" rear clearance is published only for double-wall connector pipe used with the heat shield supplied in blower kit 96-57400. With single-wall connector pipe, the blower kit heat shield carries the same published clearances as the included rear heat shield.

Chimney connector clearances, through-the-wall top flue exit (manual Figure 5)

The following clearances apply to the through-the-wall top flue exit arrangement. The manual states that these clearances apply to all sides of the connection pipe; for stove side clearances, refer to the parallel installation table above.

Connector-to-ceiling clearances

Trim and mantel clearances (manual Figure 6)

These trim and mantel clearances also apply when the stove is installed in a fireplace; however, the Shelburne 8372 is not approved for installation in any factory-built fireplace. For ceiling clearance, refer to the applicable connector-to-ceiling requirements above.

Alcove installation, unprotected surfaces

The reduced 5" rear clearance is not published for alcove installations; the manual lists an 11" stove body to rear wall clearance for all alcove configurations. For protected surfaces, refer to NFPA 211. Clearances to combustibles may be reduced only with an NFPA-approved wall protection system and the additional approval of the regulatory authority having jurisdiction.

Hearth and floor protection

Combustible flooring must be protected with a continuous layer of noncombustible material such as tile, brick, slate, or glass. The Shelburne 8372 requires ember protection only; no insulated hearth pad or R-value is required.

• Installations over Luxury Vinyl Plank or Luxury Vinyl Tile flooring require extra consideration; some LVP and LVT products begin to warp at 110°F, so consult the flooring manufacturer and provide additional shielding if necessary

Warranty

HearthStone warrants the appliance to the original retail purchaser only, when purchased by that purchaser and installed by an authorized HearthStone dealer or their designated representative, against defects in material or workmanship. Coverage begins on the date of the original invoice and is not transferable to subsequent owners.

Warranty periods differ by component. HearthStone defines the term "Limited Lifetime" as 10 years from the beginning of warranty coverage, and applies it to the stone, to cast iron not listed elsewhere, and to the clean-burning air supply system. Door handles and latches and steel components and the firebox carry a 5-year period. Appliance electrical components carry a 2-year period. Enamel finish against peeling or fading, glass, accessories, and all components not listed elsewhere carry a 1-year period. The catalytic combustors are covered directly by the combustor manufacturer, Applied Ceramics, under a separate limited warranty that provides free replacement within two years of purchase and prorated replacement pricing thereafter.

HearthStone pays for warranty labor performed by an authorized dealer during the first year after the purchase date only when the appliance was installed by an authorized dealer or their designated representative; otherwise, and thereafter, labor is the purchaser's responsibility. Exclusions include over-firing, improper installation or operation, service by anyone other than an authorized dealer, use of unapproved fuels or components, water and corrosion damage, and normal wear parts such as paint, gaskets, baffles, refractory materials, and glass. Surface and hairline cracks and scratches in the stone that do not affect operation or safety are excluded, and HearthStone's obligation does not extend to the appliance's ability to heat a desired space. Warranty registration is not required as a condition of coverage. Refer to the complete warranty in the current Shelburne 8372 owner's manual for the full terms, conditions, and limitations.
