Englander Tranquility Tabletop Outdoor Fire Pit (ESW0036)

A Portable 16-Gauge Tabletop Outdoor Fire Pit for Manufactured Firelogs with a Removable Stainless-Steel Burn Tray

The Englander Tranquility (ESW0036) is a portable tabletop-style outdoor fire pit built from 16-gauge steel, sized for one manufactured firelog on its removable 16-gauge stainless-steel burn tray, with an 18 lb shipping weight.

Outdoor-use restriction: the Tranquility is for outdoor use only, outside of any enclosure. It is not for indoor heating and must not be used in a building, garage, or other enclosed area, where toxic carbon monoxide can accumulate. It is not for commercial use, is not to be operated by children, must not be used in or on any boats or recreational vehicles or near automobiles, and must be used only in accordance with applicable local, state, and national rules; contact the local fire department or authority about outdoor-burning restrictions before use.

Product Features

Tabletop 16-Gauge Construction

The Tranquility pairs a 16-gauge steel body with a removable 16-gauge stainless-steel burn tray and two insertable side panels in a compact tabletop format. The openings in the burn tray and in the sides of the body are functional: the manual states they are necessary for good combustion and must be kept unobstructed. The side panels are presented by the manufacturer as a heat-dispersing and errant-spark design feature, not as spark containment, and no surface, coating, or panel makes operation of an open outdoor fire inherently protected.

Manufactured-Firelog Fuel System

The only approved fuel is a manufactured firelog, such as the packaged Duraflame-style logs the manual gives as an example. Do not burn natural firewood, charcoal briquettes or lump charcoal, driftwood, trash, leaves, paper, cardboard, plywood, or painted, stained, or pressure-treated wood, and do not use any fuel other than manufactured firelogs. Follow the firelog producer’s instructions, which may call for lighting the log while it remains in its packaging. Place the log on the provided grate, never directly into the bottom of the body, burn no more than one manufactured firelog at a time, and do not add another log until the first has burned out completely. Never use gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, lighter fluid, alcohol, or any other flammable liquid to light, enhance, or relight a fire.

Assembly and Included Components

Component Quantity Assembly Note per the Exact Manual
Body (base) 1 Principal preassembled structure; the product should arrive partially preassembled
Fuel grate (16-gauge stainless-steel burn tray) 1 Must be seated firmly in the body before use; removable for cleanup
Side panels 2 Insert into the slots provided on the sides of the fire pit

Assembly requires no tools per the exact product page. Wear protective gloves during assembly, use caution because metal parts may have sharp edges or burrs, do not force parts together, and fully assemble the fire pit before use.

Minimum Placement and Separation Distances

Requirement per the Exact Manual Distance
Structure Separation - do not light or operate within this distance of any structure (repeated for apartment settings from structures, walls, or rails, where use is allowed) 10 ft (3.05 m)
Flammable Vapors and Liquids - do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors or liquids within this distance of this or any appliance 25 ft (7.62 m)

Always use the fire pit on a hard, noncombustible surface and never place it on a flammable surface; a hard, noncombustible surface is a requirement, not a statement that any particular concrete, stone, metal, paver, or patio surface is automatically suitable. Do not use under any overhead combustible surface, avoid overhanging trees and shrubs, do not use under balconies, and do not use in windy conditions. Keep electrical cords away, keep the area clear of combustible materials, and do not use in an explosive atmosphere. The manual publishes no numerical overhead clearance, and none is stated here.

Outdoor Use and Operating Requirements

Fully assemble the fire pit and confirm the grate is firmly seated before use, and empty ash and coal residue before each use. Exercise the same precautions as with any open fire: do not lean over the unit during lighting or operation, do not wear flammable or loose clothing, use long, sturdy fireplace tools when moving or adding fuel, and never leave a lit fire pit unattended, especially around children or pets. All surfaces become hot during operation; do not touch the appliance, ashes, or coals until everything is completely cooled unless wearing protective gear, and never touch ashes or coals to test whether they are hot. Allow the fire to burn itself out and do not use water to extinguish it. Do not overload the fire pit or add fuel until the fire burns down; if any part glows red, the unit is overloaded and overfiring. Do not move, store, clean, or remove ashes until all ashes and coals are extinguished and the unit is cooled, and do not place hot tools or parts on grass, wood decking, furniture, or another combustible surface. Avoid breathing smoke or getting smoke in the eyes. Do not alter the product, and use only Englander factory-authorized replacement parts; alteration or non-original parts void the warranty.

Care and Storage

Like any steel product, the Tranquility will rust over time, especially if left outdoors; rust spots may be sanded with fine steel wool and repainted, and Englander recommends its high-temperature paint (part AC-MBSP) for touch-up. Discoloration after repeated use is normal. Inspect the fire pit regularly and clean it before each use, checking for damage and creosote after storage or non-use and completing any repairs or cleaning before operating. Clean the grate holes with a wire brush and keep the grate and body air holes unobstructed, remove any creosote with a creosote cleaner (Englander part RX-CR is compatible), wipe exterior surfaces with a cloth using mild dishwashing detergent if needed, use a wood-stove cleaner (Englander part RX-WSC is compatible) for stubborn deposits, and rinse and dry thoroughly after cleaning. Do not use oven cleaner or abrasive cleaners, and do not place the product or any part in a self-cleaning oven. Once the fire is out and the unit has cooled, remove ashes, clean and dry the unit, and store it in a cool, dry location away from children and pets; protected storage helps shelter it from the elements. AC-MBSP, RX-CR, and RX-WSC are optional maintenance products, not included equipment.
