Product Features

SIT 820 Nova Control with 7-Day Pilot Timeout

The Stowe uses a SIT 820 valve system. The pilot is a standing pilot lit with the stove's own piezoelectric spark igniter, and the thermopile generates the millivolt supply that powers the gas control valve, so the appliance itself does not depend on household current to operate. The gas valve extinguishes the pilot after 7 days without a call for heat. HearthStone notes in the owner's manual that where the stove is left idle outside peak heating season, a programmable thermostat set to run the stove at least once a week will keep the pilot from timing out.

Manual, Thermostat or Optional Remote Operation

The Stowe can be run manually at the gas control valve, with a wall-mounted 750 millivolt thermostat, or with the optional SIT remote control kit. A variable output control on the gas valve adjusts heat output between the published minimum and maximum inputs, so a low flame setting gives longer burn cycles at reduced output and a high setting gives a shorter, hotter cycle.

Ceramic Burner, Five-Piece Log Set and Platinum Bright Embers

Model 8325 is published with a ceramic burner. The stove ships with a five-piece decorative ceramic log set packed separately and a bag of Platinum Bright Embers, both installed in a specified sequence during setup.

Integral Cast-Iron Heat Exchanger

A cast-iron heat exchanger sits above the fire and is integral to the appliance. HearthStone describes its purpose as moving heat from the fire into the room rather than up the chimney.

Integral Safety Barrier Screen

The Stowe includes a safety barrier screen as an integral part of the appliance. The owner's manual lists the safety barrier screen among the Model 8325 features, and the current specification sheet lists safety barrier screens as included.

Natural Gas as Shipped, Propane with the Included Kit

The Stowe is factory equipped to burn natural gas. A propane conversion kit is included with the appliance and must be installed by qualified service personnel before the stove is operated on propane. At elevations from 0 to 2,000 ft, maximum input is 22,400 BTU/hr on either natural gas or propane, with a 15,000 BTU/hr minimum input. For installations from 2,000 to 4,500 ft, current Model 8325 technical data specifies a 21,000 BTU/hr maximum input on natural gas while propane remains rated at 22,400 BTU/hr. Natural-gas installations above 2,000 ft require the manufacturer's high-altitude conversion procedure.

Optional Blower and Optional Remote

A convection blower and a remote control kit are both optional on Model 8325 and are sold separately. Neither is included with the appliance. The optional blower is a variable speed unit and requires household current; the appliance itself operates on its own millivolt system.

Direct Vent Installation

The Stowe is a direct vent appliance using a 4" x 6-5/8" vent with a 45-degree outlet at the stove. HearthStone approves three venting configurations for this model: vertical venting with vertical termination, vertical venting with horizontal termination, and horizontal venting with snorkel termination. Vent components must come from an approved manufacturer and must not be mixed between manufacturers within the same system.

Approved for Mobile Home Installation

Model 8325 is approved for installation in an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured home in the United States where not prohibited by local codes, and the rating plate is marked certified for mobile home installation. The rating plate is also marked certified for Canada.

Built in Vermont

The Model 8325 rating plate identifies the appliance as manufactured by HearthStone QHHP, Inc. of Morrisville, Vermont, and the current HearthStone catalog describes its direct vent gas stoves as certified gas-fired direct vent heaters made in Vermont.

Available Finishes and Configurations

All four configurations are the same Model 8325 appliance and differ only in exterior finish. Each ships configured for natural gas with an LP conversion kit included.

Published dimensions describe the appliance body. Overall installed dimensions that include the vent depend on the venting arrangement and the vent manufacturer.

Clearances and Installation

The values below are minimum clearances to combustibles for the appliance as published for Model 8325. They are minimum distances in all cases. The installer is responsible for assessing the combustible materials in the actual installation, and the installation must also meet local codes and the requirements of the gas supplier.

Appliance Clearances to Combustibles

The side clearance is conditional. A side wall 18" deep or less requires 4". A side wall deeper than 18" requires 6". Confirm the actual side wall depth before siting the stove.

HearthStone also notes that the governing rear clearance is set by either the appliance's minimum clearance or the vent pipe's minimum clearance, depending on whether the installation uses vertical rise within the room or a rear exit through-the-wall vent. Allow for access to the gas control valve access door on the front of the unit, for periodic cleaning and servicing, and for the blower assembly if one is present or planned.

Hearth and Floor Protection

The Stowe may be placed directly on any non-combustible surface or on a wood floor. On any other combustible surface a panel of metal, wood, stone or glass must be installed under the appliance, extending the full width and depth of the appliance. Installations must meet all local codes.

Where the stove is installed in a room with luxury vinyl plank or luxury vinyl tile flooring, the minimum required clearance from the front glass of the stove to the LVP or LVT flooring is 6". HearthStone notes that LVP and LVT flooring begins to warp at 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

Venting Requirements

Three venting configurations are approved for Model 8325: vertical venting with vertical termination, vertical venting with horizontal termination, and horizontal venting with snorkel termination.

• Vertical termination requires at least 10 ft of vertical pipe.
• Maximum vertical run is 35 ft, and the maximum length of vent in a chimney installation is 35 ft.
• Elbows in vertical terminations are limited to a maximum of two 90-degree or four 45-degree elbows.
• Horizontal venting requires a minimum 9" rise, taken either directly off the heater or with a minimum 14" snorkel.
• Horizontal sections require a 1/4" rise every 12" of horizontal run.
• At minimum vertical rise, the maximum horizontal run is 10 ft. A maximum horizontal run of 10 ft also applies where a 14" snorkel termination is used.
• For each 90-degree elbow after the second, remove 5 ft from the allowable horizontal run. For Canadian installations, remove 4 ft.
• Wall penetrations require a minimum 10" x 10" square hole, with the vent positioned to maintain 2" minimum clearance at the top and 1" minimum clearance on the other sides.
• Termination caps must be no less than 18" horizontally from any roof or vertical surface.

Vent and air intake termination clearances above the high side of an angled roof are published as follows.

Vent terminal locations are further governed by the acceptable termination location requirements published for this model, which set separate minimum distances to grade, windows and doors, soffits, corners, gas meters and regulators, air supply inlets, sidewalks and decks, and which differ between United States and Canadian installations. Review these with your installer before selecting a termination point.

Vent kits and components are supplied separately. Only venting components from the manufacturers approved by HearthStone for this appliance may be used, and components from different manufacturers must not be mixed within the same venting system.

The safety barrier screen and the cast-iron heat exchanger are integral to the appliance. Vent kits and vent components are supplied separately and are not included with the stove. A convection blower and a remote control kit are optional and are not included.

Warranty

The Stowe is covered by HearthStone's limited manufacturer warranty as printed in the current Model 8325 owner's manual, which defines its Limited Lifetime coverage as 10 years from the beginning of warranty coverage. For gas appliances the manual's warranty table covers stone and cast iron not listed elsewhere under Limited Lifetime; door handles and latches, steel components and firebox, and burner and logs for 5 years; appliance electrical and gas components and refractory, vermiculite panels and baffles for 2 years; and enamel finish against peeling or fading, accessories, glass and all components not listed elsewhere for 1 year. Warranty labor is covered during the first year only, and only where the appliance was installed by an authorized dealer or their designated representative. The warranty extends to the original retail purchaser and is not transferrable. The manual notes that online registration is not required as a condition of warranty coverage. Coverage applies only to components present on this appliance. Exclusions, eligibility and claim requirements are governed by the warranty as printed in the manual supplied with the appliance.
